Aren’t apple dumplings just the cutest things?  I’ve always loved an individual type dessert but this is my first try at making an apple dumpling and they turned out great.  I saw several recipes online when I was doing some research.  They were either wrapped like these in a pie crust or puff pastry or they were just stuffed with a streusel mixture.  I wanted both so these Streusel Stuffed Baked Apple Dumplings were born.

It was kind of crazy how easy these were.  I know I took some shortcuts but sometimes that’s really what it’s all about.  Creating something stunning looking that’s also delicious but does’t take hours in the kitchen kneading dough.  Clearly we all know I’ve had a slight issue with proper time management lately so this is exactly what I needed.  I used store bought puff pastry sheets.  I’ve never tried to make puff pastry from scratch.  I’m a little intimidated.  Well…a lot and I honestly think the store bought are just as good and don’t take such effort.  In this recipe for stuffed apple dumplings you can also use store bought caramel or even better…salted caramel (I get giddy just thinking about it) and that will save even more time and effort.

In these dumplings I cored them out and stuffed them with a wonderful streusel mixture that’s totally customizable.  If you’re one of my 3 lovely readers :) you’ll know I try and make each recipe my own by swapping out ingredients for things I love.  With this filling you could use any kind of nut you’re especially fond of.  You could leave in or take out the coconut.  Things like that.  Anytime I’m able to take a recipe and adapt it to my taste is a good day.  Although one thing I would say is that I tested with several kinds of apples and for me Granny Smith turned out the best.

This recipe really is super simple, like I said.  You’ll roll out a puff pastry sheet (you’ll need a ruler to measure to get it just right) and cut it into 4 squares placing the cored out apple in the center of each.  Stuff with your one of a kind streusel mixture and wrap it up tight.  Make some cute leaves from the other pastry sheet if you like, brush with egg so that it gets all golden brown and bake.  Serve in a pool of caramel with ice cream on the side.  You’ll fall in love like I did!!!

    • Well thank you so much! I was surprised at how simple they were.

  1. Where did you buy your bowls?

    • Hi Allan. I got these at a local flea market that I go to often to buy my props. They’re pretty great, huh? :D

      • Yes, they are! What do you call this type of bowl? I mean the material. I like how they are colored but at the same time translucent – almost like jade!

        • I think they’re either called jade or jadeite maybe? I know I’ve heard the name before and it feels like it’s on the tip of my tongue! I’ll hit ya back if I think of it. I think these are pretty old.

    • Thanks Lexi! They look complicated but were so easy.
