Bread Cheese

Bread Cheese

Yep.  Bread Cheese.  Ever heard of it?  I hadn’t either until very recently but I am now a huge fan!  I was strolling through Whole Foods the other day (probably talking to myself like a homeless bag lady like I’m normally doing) and I ran across this cheese.  The title of course was Bread Cheese.  I was so intrigued.  Naturally I had to buy to see what this was all about.

Bread Cheese

Reading the package told me that all you had to do was heat it and eat.  Sounds simple enough.  It had suggestions as well and I eventually tried several of them, even dipping it in coffee which is a traditional way of eating.  I turned to the world wide web and did some digging.  It’s a Finnish style fresh cheese and it’s called bread cheese because when it’s cooked it takes on the color and consistency of dense bread.  I loved it and would recommend this as an easy go-to appetizer that requires little to zero work.  I just heated it in a cast iron skillet but you could use anything really.

It seems like it pairs really well with sweet things and fruits.  I tried it with fresh blueberries and a drizzle of honey.  Love!

Bread Cheese and Berries

I tried it with as many dips/spreads as I could find in my fridge to see what stood out.

I used pepper jelly, balsamic onion jam, hot peach chutney, sour cherry spread with Luxardo maraschino cherries.  All were great however, my most favorite was a fig and chocolate spread.  The salty cheese next to the chocolate in the spread was so good!  Now, don’t think you’d have to use fancy ingredients by any means.  It was amazing with berries and honey and would be perfect with regular old strawberry preserves.  Just grab some next time you run across it and see for yourself!

It’ll keep forever in your fridge and you can pull it out next time those pesky unexpected company drops by and look like a total rock star!

  1. I’ve never seen this before, or even heard of it, but it looks yummy. I generally like anything that has the word cheese in it, so I’m sure this would be right up my ally. Love how you paired it with blueberries and honey.

Thanks for introducing me to this new food!

    • I hadn’t either but it was so different and so so simple I will buy it again and keep it for when company comes by. You can do anything with it.

    • Oh girl it was so good!!! I’ve never had anything that you can pair so many different things with and it still works great with them all!

  2. I love cheese too. I hope I can find it around Gardendale. Thanks for the tip.

    • I have only seen it once but I’ll grab one for you next time I see it. It’s nice because it’s different.

    • Oh I bet that was wonderful!!!

  4. Bread cheese? Is the texture like the squeaky Greek cheese that you can grill (the name escapes me right now)? I am wildly intrigued to run to Whole Foods tomorrow, to look for this cheese. Not only does it sound fun but I love how you served it.

    • I don’t think I’ve had squeaky cheese but you can grill it. I love how versatile it is! Literally everything I paired it with was great. You could even use chips or toast points if you didn’t want sweet but I loved the sweet with the semi-salty cheese.

    • I hadn’t before either but because of my deep love of any kind of cheese I couldn’t resist!! The fig cocoa spread also came from Whole Foods. I have so many different fun spreads. I just pick them up any time I see a new interesting one to have on hand. It turned out I loved it.

  5. I’m shocked – there is a thing called BREAD CHEESE? This is beyond awesome. My two favorite things on the planet have merged!!

    • I know! That’s what made me buy it. It’s really all cheese but it has some bread like consistency and browns like bread when baked. I loved it.
